The digital world and coronavirus

One of the first things that come to mind when someone thinks about the Coronavirus is that millions of people lost their jobs and hundreds of thousands of business owners had to close their doors.

In contrast, online sales started to rise and people saw the value of buying their products and services on the internet. The problem was that shipping services and all types of cargo transportation started to be delayed as workers needed to be sent home to avoid the spread of the virus.

All shipping services started to work with the minimum staff possible and the process of shipping and handling orders was delayed by days and even weeks in some cases. This forced many business owners to refund customers that expected shipments at specific times.

The biggest concern for Amazon sellers was the fact that many types of items started to be restricted and this forced many of those sellers to look for alternative ways to generate income. Supply chains started to find themselves in a major crisis and things are still not moving along as they used to back in 2019.

Getting ready for the competitive landscape

Another issue that is becoming very evident for Amazon sellers is that more and more people are now working from home. It used to be that one in one hundred people with jobs worked online, but since the pandemic, this could have easily increased to one in ten workers. 

We are just throwing random numbers here due to how difficult it is to measure this at this time, but it is safe to say that there has been a massive change in the number of people that are using the internet to make money.

Sellers need to adapt to survive

With the many changes taking place now, those who sell on Amazon need to step their game up and find more ways to attract customers. The difficulties with shopping need to be compensated with a better service that helps customers feel like they are getting more out of their purchase.

Some business owners are becoming more involved in social media and they are launching useful blogs, podcasts, and forums to give their customers valuable information. The idea is to be proactive and to find ways to improve your services while the pandemic continues to slow down shipments and deliveries worldwide. The Amazon sellers that are going to come out on top will be the ones that provide an enhanced experience for their customers.

Final thoughts

Not much should be expected to change in the coming months as many areas of the world are still being severely affected by COVID-19, but we can expect that vaccinations will likely help bring things back to normal in the coming year or so. With that said, no one can fully predict when this will be over, so adapting is the best way to approach the problem.
